Material Management/Waste Assessment
Increasing disposal costs and limited disposal facilities, together with pressure to minimise use of virgin aggregates, has meant waste management and minimisation now have a significant impact on project profitability, or even project viability.
CGL has a proven track record of advising clients on the minimisation of waste volumes. We also undertake onsite delineation and segregation supervision as well as numerical modelling, ground profiling, and provide reliable excavation volume assessment prior to contractor site mobilisation. Plans can be supplied for on-site use to minimise excavation timescales and waste disposal can be minimised by enabling appropriate reuse of site-won arisings.
CGL frequently helps clients gain appropriate permits, exemptions or declarations under the Definition of Waste: Code of Practice (DoWCoP). Such documentation may be needed for reuse of materials on the site of origin or other local sites. CGL has helped clients to avoid significant costs and reduce their environmental burden by identifying innovative uses of site-won materials.
We recently provided a cost saving solution for a residential project. CGL determined the pattern of contamination across the site using a 3D grid system to remove and safely dispose of the basement arisings in a very cost-efficient way. Overall, we saved our client around £7 million.
We offer CPD training and tailored one day training sessions to explain current waste management legislation and give an independent view on the potential opportunities and limitations of the available options for material management. These sessions are presented by CGL Senior Engineers registered as Qualified Persons for DoWCoP declarations.
