Back to School for CGL

CGL is committed to encouraging young people into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers and to support the local community. So last week Madeleine Groves, Graduate Engineer and Keisha Smith, Outreach Co-ordinator at CGL spoke to year 9 – 11 pupils at Weydon School in Farnham, Surrey about STEM.

Madeleine and Keisha shared their knowledge about careers in ground engineering and geology. They also highlighted the benefits of taking STEM subjects at A Level and university.  Throughout the talk, Keisha and Madeleine shared their own career paths of how and why they became ground engineering specialists.

Madeleine commented “Talking at the STEM event was great. I didn’t really know anything about careers in engineering when I was at school / college, let alone the less well known areas like ground engineering so I was really pleased to be able to share my knowledge to the students about geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. We also introduced them to the subject of geology and demonstrated how it’s a practical field with lots of applications that incorporates a variety of different sciences”
