The buttress pile system has been employed successfully again by CGL to enable the temporary support of a 9m retained excavation height in west London. Access constraints into the basement meant that traditional propping was not suitable or efficient.
CGL combined with Mabey Hire to develop an innovative buttress pile solution to support the retaining wall and remove the need for temporary cross/raking propping. This enabled foundation piling to be carried out within the basement and left a largely blue sky box for construction. The design was carried out with the assistance of PLAXIS 3D Finite Element analysis software.
