CGL is currently providing geoenvironmental support to Morgan Sindall in delivering a new state of the art sports facility for Southampton Solent University. The new £28 million building is the latest step in an ongoing £100m estates development plan, which is transforming Solent’s East Park Terrace (EPT) campus. Facilities in the building will include two sports halls, three fitness studios, a health and wellbeing gym, a strength and conditioning gym and high quality teaching facilities. In addition, parking will be developed underneath the building.

During enabling works for the scheme, hydrocarbon contamination in soils and shallow groundwater were found, CGL provided a rapid response to help delineate the extent of the issue and in negotiating and agreeing a strategy with the regulators to address the contamination. The strategy, which involves targeted source removal and associated groundwater monitoring, will enable construction to continue with minimal disruption and impact to programme.
