CGL has been appointed by Balfour Beatty (on behalf of SSE) to support with upgrade works on an overhead line transmission scheme which runs through a section of the Great Glen in the Scottish Highlands. In addition to carrying out ground investigation works across varied and often challenging terrain, CGL will undertake slope stability assessments of towers situated along steep sections of the route.

An initial walkover survey and desk study of the route was carried out by CGL earlier this year when we captured some dramatic photos of the spectacular landscape.

Our earlier preliminary surveys focused on identifying towers at risk of future slope instability and movement. CGL is very well resourced to handle geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigations at such remote and difficult locations and we recently completed a four-year project for Balfour Beatty involving ground investigations and temporary works design for a transmission reinforcement project between Beauly and Mossford in the Scottish Highlands.
