CGL has been appointed by Balfour Beatty Power Transmission and Distribution (BB PT&D) on behalf of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) to carry out ground investigation works for another transmission upgrade in western Scotland.

The Inveraray to Crossaig project aims to reinforce the existing transmission network to enable renewable energy projects to connect to the electricity network and to ensure security of supply. The project includes construction of a new 275kV overhead line and decommissioning/removal of the existing 132kV transmission line.

CGL’s investigations will include drilling and interpreting data from 46 boreholes. Parts of the route are difficult to access, and the project requires work over winter which calls upon CGL’s specialist experience and resources for ground investigations in remote areas.

Richard Pennock, CGL Director commented “We are delighted to be working with BB PT&D and SSEN again on this important project to improve transmission networks for new wind farms in the Argyll and Kintyre area.”
