Simon Hunt, Engineer at CGL’s Harrogate office successfully completed the Welsh 3000s on 7 July. The challenge is to walk across the summits of the 15 Welsh mountains over 3000ft in under 24 hours. The clock starts at the summit of Snowdon and ends at the summit of Foel Fras.
Simon’s route was 25 miles long with a total height gain of 3,258m. With his walking partner, Simon completed the challenge in just under 17 hours on one of the hottest days of the year. Because it starts and ends at mountain summits there is some pre and post walking as well, so the whole day totalled 31.5 miles of walking, a total height gain of 3,769m and a walking time of over 20 hours!
The walking duo took up the challenge to raise funds for a trip to the USA for 36 Scouts from across Staffordshire and Nottinghamshire.
Simon was selected to be the Unit Leader for the group between the ages of 14 and 18 to attend the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia next summer. This trip will help them to become independent thinkers, leaders and team players. It will give them confidence and understanding as they learn to accept and co-operate with those of different cultures, faiths and views to their own.
To attend each participant is required to raise over £3,000. More details are on Simon’s fundraising page at: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/SHuntWelsh3000.
